EXOTOC WORLD AND THE BURLESQUE REVIVAL

Narrative:  From 2002 - 2012, collaborators at Red Vaughn Tremmel and Sissy Butch Productions shot and edited the feature-length documentary Exotic World and the Burlesque Revival, narrated by Margaret Cho.

Description:  Exotic World and the Burlesque Revival is the story of a goat farm in the middle of the Mojave Desert that became ground zero of the largest burlesque revival since the 1940s. The film focuses on former striptease dancers Jennie Lee (a 1950s labor union organizer for strippers) and Dixie Evans (“The Marilyn Monroe of Burlesque”) who transform a goat shed into the world’s first and only museum and retirement home devoted to burlesque—Exotic World (a.k.a. The Burlesque Hall of Fame). With little more than a social security check, Jennie and Dixie refuse to let the art of burlesque fade to memory.

Special Exhibition:  A 12-minute edit excerpt of the film plays on a loop at the Burlesque Hall of Fame Museum in Las Vegas, Nevada.  The DVD is available for sale at the museum's gift shop.

Exhibition Highlights:  dOCUMENTA (Kassel, Germany), Coney Island Film Festival (Coney Island, NY), The Hollywood Theatre (Portland, OR), The Big Sky Documentary Film Festival (Missoula, MT), The Sandberg Institute of Amsterdam, and The Boston Burlesque Festival.  A looping 15-minute edit excerpting the film was produced at the request of the Burlesque Hall of Fame Museum in Las Vegas, Nevada for use in its Exotic World exhibit beginning in 2018.
