CRYING EARTH RISE UP!
Narrative: In coordination with Director Suree Towfighnia, Co-Producer Debra White Plume, and other collaborators at Prairie Dust Films, I Co-Produced Crying Earth Rise Up, a broadcast-length documentary about the human cost of uranium mining. The film was supported in large part by Vision Maker Media, a National Minority Consortium of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
Logline: When the drinking water at her home on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation tests high for radiation, Debra White Plume sets out to determine the cause. What she finds alarms her.
Distribution: Crying Earth Rise Up is distributed to Public Television by NETA (National Education Telecommunications Association). It has been broadcast on PBS hundreds of times on stations nationwide since 2015. DVD and streaming rights are handled by Vision Maker Media, Documentary Educational Resources.
Grants/Funding: Vision Maker Media (CPB), Seventh Generation Fund, Silicon Valley Community Foundation, Indigenous Environmental Network/Western Mining Action Network, and Honor the Earth. Additional funding by individual donors, including a successful Kickstarter campaign, which raised over $27,000 online.
